FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What is the best age to begin using Eduplates with my child? Eduplates are like books on a plate. It is not required to eat with the Eduplates to use them to point out pictures, letters, numbers and teach colors for example. Research shows a child’s brain is like a sponge and talking and singing to a baby is very stimulating for their brain development. Research also suggests that the earlier you start exposing children to the written symbols, the earlier children begin making sense of the written language. Our recommendation is 6 months old. We encourage singing and reading to your child as early as practical.
How often should I use Eduplates? Eduplates are designed to be used daily during mealtimes, but they can also be used at anytime. You can have them in the play room, study or anywhere the child can grab them and simply look and learn. The simple exposure of literacy at the very early ages is a very powerful experience for a child’s learning. We do recommend that a child is not forced to read and count but they should be used casually in short intervals. The idea is to make the experience fun. Do not forget to praise the child.
Is there a recommend way of using Eduplates? The use of Eduplates is very flexible. You can use one plate for a span of a week or alternate every day or every mealtime. You can also allow the child to pick one for the day. Simply make sure that all plates are used in a span of 6 weeks and used daily if possible. On each Eduplate questions and instructions may be found in the rectangles. These are designed to be a guide for parents/guardians to help children think and learn as well as create converstation. Ask these questions plus similar ones every time Eduplates are used. If access to the internet is available, visit www.MyChildsFavoriteWebsite.com , click on Lessons in English/Spanish and follow the instructions.
What are the benefits of teaching with Eduplates? One of the greatest benefits of using Eduplates is that they offer parents/guardians/siblings the opportunity to praise young readers. Eduplates can help build a child’s self-esteem with frequent praising for a “job well done.” The obvious of course is that the earlier a child learns the alphabet and the phonemic sounds connected to each letter and the relation of numbers to objects, the faster a child will learn to read and count with ease.
What else can I teach by using Eduplates with my child? Taking age and abilities as a guide pose only questions or commands that you feel the child can accomplish or complete. Eventually one can teach colors, handwriting skills, syllables, shapes, pronunciation of words, reading left to right and create opportunities to develop critical thinking skills. Professor Read A Lot also has great messages in the speech bubbles regarding respect, eating the right foods, hygiene care and staying positive.
Why do you provide a Sing Along CD? Music and rhythm has been proven to be a great facilitating tool for language development. Songs with repetition are helpful in developing language in a fun way. All the songs on the CD are considered some of children’s favorites. We believe every child should have the opportunity to enjoy and learn these traditional songs. We have also provided the opportunity to print out the lyrics so mom or dad can have the words to lead and teach the words to every song. Visit www.MyChildsFavoriteWebsite.com. On Track 13 Professor Read A Lot also has a special message for all his students.
